How to Prepare for This Hurricane Season

With the warmer weather approaching that means more severe weather in our area. Hurricane Season officially begins Tuesday June 1st and runs through the end of November. Make sure that you and your family are properly informed on these hurricane tips to ensure your safety.The most important thing to do is be prepared. It is said that while help is always on the way after a hurricane, residents need to be able to support themselves for the first 72 hours after a storm. There are several steps that can be taken to get you ready before and to help support yourself for those long hard hours after.

Review your emergency plan.
Make sure that everyone is informed with the emergency/evacuation plan. Make sure everyone in your family knows the safest place in your home.

Check Supplies.
Be sure to have all the necessities in case of an emergency. This includes, a blanket, flashlight, batteries, nonperishable food, and first aid kit.

Set out of town contacts.
Make sure someone from out of town is your form of contact in case other members of you family are looking for you.

Figure out your evacuation route.
Make sure you know the right directions to leave before the storm hits. Make sure you have a map and full tank of gas.

Follow Instructions.
Follow all local authorities regarding evacuation plans or safety procedures. Check radio, television, or other forms of media for important information.
